UAE Ambassador meets Gujarat Chief Minister; expresses interest in strong UAE-Gujarat partnership

UAE Ambassador to India H.E. Dr. Ahmed AlBanna along with Mr. Ahmad Alfalahi, UAE Commercial Attaché met Chief Minister of Gujarat Smt. Anandiben Patel at Gandhinagar on 20th July, 2016. H.E. Dr. AlBanna expressed his interest in expanding UAE partnership with Gujarat in various new areas of development and strengthening its friendly relationship with the State.

Both discussed a wide range of issues, from trends of the ever-growing UAE-India relations, the economic development of Gujarat and UAE-Gujarat cooperation in various business sectors like gems & jewellery, ports, oil & gas, solar power, renewable energy, petrochemical and food production.

H.E. Dr. AlBanna mentioned that UAE’s company Dubai Port World operates Mundra port in Gujarat. The Mundra port is the closest port in India to Gulf Countries.

The Ambassador of UAE also discussed possibilities of extending ties between UAE and Gujarat for best practices in logistic supply chain and modern storage facilities. Other areas discussed during the meeting include academic institutions and co-operation in education.

H.E. Albanna showed keenness to increase the number of UAE companies operating from Gujarat and ensured more proposals of bilateral relations in future. On her side, Hon’ble Chief Minister assured her full support for any of the UAE business engagement in Gujarat.

Smt. Anandiben Patel shared details of various schemes initiated by the Government of Gujarat, specially towards women empowerment. While stating that Gujarat is a self-sufficient state in the energy sector and a manufacturing hub, Chief Minister discussed possibilities of partnering with UAE and scaling new avenues in the energy sector.

She also extended invitation to representatives of UAE government and industrialists to attend Vibrant Gujarat Summit being held in January 2017 in Gandhinagar.

Ambassador Albanna also met Mr. Arvind Agarwal, Additional Chief Secretary of the Government of Gujarat. During the meeting UAE ambassador was briefed by the Government officials on Vibrant Gujarat Summit 2017. H.E. Albanna apprised the State Government’s strategies for simplification of processes for business and industry.

Mr. S. J. Haider, Principal Secretary -Tourism, Government of Gujarat and Mr. Rajkumar Beniwal, Managing Director, Industrial Extension Bureau of Gujarat (iNDEXTb) were also present.
