UAE Ambassador H.E. Dr. Ahmed Al Banna meets the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Punjab

H.E. Dr. Ahmed Al Banna, UAE ambassador to India, met Capt. Amarinder Singh, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Punjab at New Delhi on 05 September 2019.

Punjab Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal, Industries Minister Sunder Sham Arora, Education and PWD Minister Vijay Inder Singla, Sports Minister Rana Gurmit Singh were also present at the meeting.

The meeting saw discussions on cooperation ties in the areas of the economy, investment, food security, infrastructure, logistics parks, civil aviation, tourism and hospitality between the UAE and Punjab.

H.E. Dr. Al Banna expressed his interest in expanding UAE partnership with Punjab in various new areas of development and strengthening its friendly relationship with the State. Chief Minister expressed his state's desire to further strengthen its ties with the UAE.

H.E. Dr Ahmed Al Banna stated that UAE-India relations have never been better and with intensive highest-level engagements, the relationship has been elevated to a ‘Comprehensive Strategic Partnership’. He mentioned that in the last four years, there were three State Visits by Hon’ble Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi to UAE and two State Visits by H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces to India. India is also UAE’s leading trading partner.

During the discussions on Food Security, H.E. UAE Ambassador apprised Punjab Chief Minister about the UAE-India Food Security project. He mentioned that Government of UAE has designated Emaar to pursue the food security project with India. It envisages establishing logistics and cold storage chains and food processing facilities in the Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Gujarat with the intention to increase the export of food products from India to UAE.

Capt Amrainder Singh and other ministers expressed their keen interest in the project and invited UAE to collaborate with Punjab on Food Security. Chief Minister also mentioned the opportunity of exporting Basmati Rice from Punjab to UAE. From his part, H.E. Dr AlBanna suggested a visit of H.E. Mariam Saeed Hareb Al Mehairi, UAE Minister of State for Food Security to Punjab during her next visit to India.

During the meeting, both sides also discussed to enhance the air connectivity between UAE-Punjab to boost trade & business activities and expressed their willingness to work on this in future.

H.E. Dr. Al Banna apprised the Chief Minister that UAE based business groups including Lulu, DP World, Sharaf Group and NMC are already exploring business and trade opportunities in sectors such as food processing, logistics, urban infrastructure develop and healthcare in Punjab.

During the Meeting, Captain Amarinder Singh extended an invite to H.E. Dr. Ahmed Al Banna for UAE to participate as a Partner Country in Progressive Punjab Investors Summit-2019 to be organised at Mohali from 5th to 6th December. Chief Minister also invited UAE Ambassador for the historic 550th birth anniversary celebrations of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji.

Further, Captain Amarinder Singh welcomed the proposal of opening UAE Consulate in Punjab. He mentioned that Canada and United Kingdom has Consulates in Punjab.

H.E. Dr Ahmed Al Banna, on the behalf of Government of UAE expressed his deep Condolences to the Chief Minister and the families of 23 people who died in the explosion at a firecracker factory in Punjab's Batala city on 4 September.
