KEY POINTS DISCUSSED
A meeting was convened between H.E. Dr. Ahmad Al Banna, UAE Ambassador to India, Captain Aysha Alhameli, Permanent Representative of the United Arab Emirates at ICAO, and H.E. Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister for Civil Aviation (I/C), Housing & Urban Affairs (I/C) & MoS Commerce & Industry, India.
The primary agenda of the said meeting was to discuss various matters pertaining to the two countries in the realm of ICAO, in particular, to seek the support of the Indian Government for the candidature of Captain Aysha Al Hameli, for the post of President of the Council of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

 

   
HE Dr. AlBanna and the Indian Minister hailed the stronger than ever bilateral relations between the UAE and India, specifically after the recently concluded landmark visit by H.E. Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India to the UAE.
Minister Puri welcomed Captain AlHameli and applauded her efforts for being one of the female pioneer at the ICAO. Her nomination for the post of President of the ICAO council speaks volumes of her individual achievements and progressive nature of the UAE, the Indian Minister added.
Captain Al Hameli, for her part, thanked the Minister for the warm reception. She further elucidated her association of 11 years with ICAO. She added that this year other than the UAE, there are two other countries contending for the post of the President of the Council.
The President is elected by the council of 36 member states, and they are scheduled to be held in November 2019, Captain Al Hameli added.
The Minister reassured India’s support to the United Arab Emirates and Captain Al Hameli for the post of President.
H.E. Al Banna, also noted the appointment of India’s new Representative to ICAO, and further assured the support of the UAE for the candidature of India as a Part II member states, in the forthcoming elections scheduled to be held during the 40th General Assembly of ICAO in Montreal, Canada from September 24 – October 04, 2019.
The two sides, hailed the bilateral economic relations and expressed their intent to closely work together and align their efforts, to their mutual benefit on various international and multilateral platforms.
The meeting culminated on a cordial and positive note, with the Indian Minister presenting a book written by him to Captain AlHameli.
