New Delhi | January 29, 2019

H.E. Dr. Ahmed Al Banna, UAE Ambassador to India conducted a press conference to brief the Indian media about the UAE Observing this year as “ The Year Of Tolerance.”, on Tuesday, 29th January, 2019, at The Embassy Of UAE, New Delhi.

While addressing the media persons at the press conference the Ambassador talked at length about the theme. While acknowledging that more than 200 nationalities living peacefully and successfully in the UAE, the Ambassador stressed that the UAE society has been an undisputed example of being a tolerant and inclusive country and  the UAE Government is keen to promote acceptance and understanding as core values of the society.

The Ambassador said that aiming to promote the culture of tolerance regionally and globally, the Government has launched the International Institute for Tolerance in Dubai. The step seeks to provide solutions to the challenges of extremism and promote the UAE as a role model for tolerance. Furthermore, In December 2012, H. H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation launched Hedayah International Centre in Abu Dhabi for Excellence in countering violent extremism.

He also informed the Indian media fraternity about Sawab centre, co-founded by the UAE and the US to give a voice to the millions of Muslims and others around the world who stand united against terrorism and the religious misinterpretations that are being propagated by them. He said that The centre works with religious leaders, organisations, businesses and youth in order to amplify their voices, challenge extremism doctrines of hate and intolerance and demonstrate the true values of the UAE's community.

The Ambassador also responded to the questions related to developments in the Region particularly the ongoing peace efforts in Afghanistan. He reiterated that the UAE always supports sincere efforts to bring peace, security, stability and strengthen cooperation in the south Asia region.
