H.E. MOHAMMED SHARAF, ASSISTANT MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS AND INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION FOR ECONOMIC AND TRADE AFFAIRS, UAE MEETS MR. RAJIVE KUMAR, SECRETARY, MIN OF SHIPPING, GOI

October 25, 2016. The UAE Delegation headed by His Excellency Mohammed Sharaf, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation for Economic and Trade Affairs, UAE called on Mr. Rajive Kumar, Secretary, Ministry of Shipping, Government of India. His Excellency Sharaf was accompanied by the His Excellency Dr. Ahmed A.R. AlBanna, UAE Ambassador to India for the meeting.

The two sides deliberated on a wide array of issues of mutual concern and interest. His Excellency Mohammed Sharaf outlined the key investment projects and port developments undertaken by DP World in India, making it one of the premier port operator in India. The two sides hailed the strong partnership that the UAE – India enjoy specifically in the port sector.

While His Excellency Sharaf expressed UAE’s keeness to be a part of upcoming port development, and infrastructure projects in India, he also urged the Indian side to address and constitute a resolution mechanism for the major issues faced by DP World in India. The Shipping Secretary was pleased to note that UAE would be keen in being a part of various infrastructural development projects in India. To this end, he gave a brief overview of several major projects which are currently in the planning or development phase. The two sides discussed India’s ambitious ‘Sagarmala’ project, which aims to transform India’s port sector, the Industrial clusters and hinterland and develop efficient evacuation systems through road, rail, inland and coastal waterways.

H.E. Dr. Ahmed AlBanna, UAE Ambassador to India, for his part thanked the Ministry of Shipping for their continuous support and flagged some of the issues concerning DP World’s investments in India.  The Shipping Secretary assured that they will look into the matter.

Several impending issues were discussed in detail and Mr. Rajive Kumar, assured that his Ministry is working on early resolution of each of these issues.

The meeting culminated on a positive note with both sides agreeing to resolve the impending issues and explore newer areas of mutual cooperation.
